The Hastings Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) acquired 93 acres of land in 2017 with the intention to encourage retail and commercial development, hospitality, single family homes, multi-family housing, and senior and student/young professional targeted housing. This development is called North Park Commons. HEDC serves as the master developer for the site and is working with private developers to accomplish this vision.

PHASE 1

HEDC is bringing entertainment, retail and commercial lots to market in Phase 1. Hampton Inn is currently under construction.

Phase 2

Phase 2 will consist of apartments and townhomes bringing over 100 new housing units to the Hastings’ market.

PHASE 3

Currently in the planning stages, Phase 3 will be comprised of single-family homes. Development planned to begin in 2020.

About Pioneer Trail Flats

Coming Summer 2020! Pioneer Trail Flats (PTF) will be the newest apartment complex in Hastings featuring 3 apartment buildings, a total of 84 units, and a clubhouse and pool! The apartments will be a perfect spot for college students and young professionals to call home. Located on 31st Street at North Park Commons, PTF will have direct access to the Pioneer Hike & Bike Trail and is within walking distance to many amenities including shopping, restaurants, and more.

About Osborne View Estates

Coming June 2020! Osborne View Estates will be home to 30 townhome units located along 26th Street in the southernmost portion of North Park Commons. These townhomes will be available for purchase and a perfect fit for those looking to downsize!

About Hampton Inn

Coming Fall of 2019! Hampton Inn will be bringing over 80 new hotel rooms allowing more visitors in Hastings for any event or occasion boosting tourism and our local economy! If you don’t already know, Hastings has significantly less hotel rooms than other communities our size in Nebraska. We’re tackling our hotel shortage one project at a time keeping more visitors here and more money local!

Pioneer Trail Flats and Osborne View Estates are funded, in part, by Rural Workforce Housing Funds (RWHF) through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED). In 2017, Hastings was 1 of 14 Nebraska communities that received RWHF to address a growing need for affordable workforce housing in rural communities. Hastings was awarded $850,000 from this DED program which was then matched by the City of Hastings via the economic development incentive fund housed at Hastings Utilities. In addition, the Hastings Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) contributed another $100,000 to the workhouse housing fund. As these funds are paid back over time, HEDC will be able to utilize these funds to support future workforce housing projects.
